Meet the Maker

Young woman with short dark hair, wearing a black suit and white button up shirt, smiling in front of a textured gray and black background.

My name is Ying Stock-Bordnick, and I am a former student at Tulane University, where I earned an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering and a B.S.E. in Engineering Physics. I'm also a New Orleans local with a lifelong fascination for natural materials—wood, stone, water, and leather to name a few. There's something deeply captivating about the beauty, texture, and character of nature that has always drawn me in.

That appreciation truly blossomed during my time at Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee, where I studied before transferring to Tulane midway through my sophomore year. I spent much of my soccer off-season hiking through the forests, soaking in the sights, sounds, and quiet rhythm of the outdoors. I never expected those experiences to reshape the way I saw the world, but they did. Nature's ability to be both beautifully simple and endlessly complex continues to inspire the way I think, create, and design.

Leathercraft gives me the opportunity to bring those inspirations together with my engineering background, entrepreneurial spirit, and love for thoughtful design. I've always had an eye for aesthetics, and I'm grateful to have found a craft that allows me to blend creativity with functionality. Every piece I create is guided by the same philosophy: it should be beautiful without excess, functional without compromise, and built to last a lifetime.

Below, I've shared a collection of quotes that have shaped my perspective on life and design—and I'll continue adding to them as I discover new ones. Ponder them at your own leisure; you might just find something that resonates with you :)

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want to learn more about me and my craft, if you have any questions, or if you just wanna chat. I’d love to hear from you :)

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy your visit!
